“J” emerged from a deeply personal moment. It was originally intended as a cropped portrait, capturing a quiet phase where everything still felt open.
Shortly after, the situation changed completely. The connection ended abruptly, without resolution, and the drawing was left unfinished. What started as something familiar shifted during the process. The right side of the face became a surface for everything that came with that break—uncertainty, distance, and unresolved tension.
The image moved away from being a simple portrait and turned into a contrast between two states. On one side, something close and recognizable; on the other, a distortion that no longer fits into a clear form. The reference to the Joker is not a direct quotation, but rather a development that emerged naturally while continuing the work under those circumstances.
For me, the piece became a way of processing the situation without having to define it directly. Its meaning changed over time, because the story itself did not end there.
Today, “J” no longer represents only a rupture, but also what followed after.
